Aurora Woman Dead After Driving Car Into Retention Pond
Posted on March 21,2013 in Personal Injury
Emory Diaz Sepulveda, a 20-year-old hailing from Aurora, Illinois, was found dead in a retention pond near I-88 and Eola Road. According to this report from the Chicago Sun-Times, it is unclear why her car swerved off of the I-88 exit ramp and into the retention pond in the first place.
A call came in at 7:26 p.m. Saturday, March 09, and the car was pulled out of the pond shortly after police and other crews arrived on the scene. When emergency crews first arrived, the car was floating upside down. They were able to remove the car and three passengers quickly; however, Sepulveda's body wasn't found until almost 3 a.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:11 a.m. by Dr. Richard Jorgensen from the DuPage County Coroner's Office.
The three other passengers—Irene M. Affatati, 48, of North Aurora and two juveniles—were recovered and taken to the hospital. The chtribune reports here that all injuries for these three are not believed to be life-threatening.
During the long search for Sepulveda's body in the frigid water, the interstate ramp was entirely closed off. No other bodies or vehicles were found, and the Illinois State Police reported that they do not believe there was another car involved with the accident.
Losing control of your car is a very scary and dangerous situation. You can cause serious injuries to both yourself and others—whether they are your passengers, other drivers, or even pedestrians. If you've been involved in a car accident, it is important to speak with a DuPage County accident attorney as soon as possible.
