Biker Dragged by Man in an SUV

Posted on September 04, 2013 in Personal Injury

Even though most people are willing to share the road with bikers by keeping a safe distance, other people are not. According to a chtribune article, a passenger of an SUV intentionally grabbed and dragged a woman riding her bike. The woman sustained injuries to her hip, legs and arm but was able to walk away from the malicious act. According to reports, the woman described the ordeal as frightening and frustrating. She tweeted that she was in pain and felt helpless, according to the article. The woman accounts being trapped between the SUV and parked cars as the man in the back seat reached out of the window and held on to her messenger bag long enough to drag her and cause her bike to swerve and slam into a parked car. Although she refused medical attention at the scene, she did go to the hospital later due to left arm pain. Unfortunately, witnesses to the incident were not able to get the license plate of the SUV. Without a license plate number, it will be difficult for authorities to find who did this. Although most bike accidents are not usually caused intentionally, accidents do happen. According to the article, the woman stated that what happened to her shows the importance of bike friendly lanes as a way to protect bikers. Though it is the motorist's responsibility to look out for pedestrians and bike riders while driving, it is also the responsibility of the cyclist to take necessary safety precautions. It does not take much for the driver to become distracted while driving, and within seconds an accident can occur. If you or a loved one has been injured by a motorist while riding your bike contact an Illinois accident attorney. Attorneys at Mevorah & Giglio Law Offices will fight for you.
