Family Files Suit against Naperville Man
Posted on July 03, 2012 in Personal Injury
In 2008, a 20-year-old University of Illinois student named Melissa Lech was hit in a fatal car accident. For three and a half years, the family of that Naperville woman was unaware of who struck their girl. All that was known was that Melissa Lech was walking out of a bar early in the morning of August 7, 2008. She was walking near the 2800 block of McDonough Street when a car hit her.
In February of 2012, David McCarthy IV confessed to the hit and run at the front door of Lech's sister. McCarthy told the Lech family that Melissa "jumped" in front of his car. McCarthy did not disclose his name but the Lech family was able to find him by reporting his license plate number.
David McCarthy was arrested at his home by police and has been awaiting sentencing in the Will County jail. He is being charged with causing personal injury and with leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Melissa's mother Maria has filed a wrongful death suit against McCarthy on June 28
th seeking damages of over $50,000.
