KSDK reported a story about four highway workers getting
struck by a car in a serious accident in O'Fallon, Illinois. One of the workers, Dennis Beard,
died, while three others were taken to hospitals for treatment. Beard was 38 years old, and he had three children. Brian Moore, 40, and Adam Evans, 32, were airlifted to Saint Louis University Hospital, where Evans was taken into surgery. Kory Links, 39, was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and he was listed in serious condition.
The workers got injured when Michael Jeter, 34, hit a truck-mounted attenuator with his Honda Accord. The TMA was attached to the rear of a construction vehicle that was parked on the inside shoulder of Interstate 64. According to police, all the workers were either near or on the TMA when it was hit. Michael Jeter was taken to Memorial Hospital in Belleville after the accident. Jeter's
injuries were not life-threatening.
Jim Kilian, president of Kilian Corporation, said the workers were doing a striping project when the accident occured. The workers were subcontracted to Briteway Striping.
The incident caused the police to shut down I-64, and some drivers were in their cars for more than two hours. Traffic was backed up for miles, before the police turned the
traffic around and made everyone get off the interstate.
