Illinois Motorist Charged in Hit and Run
Posted on August 23, 2012 in Personal Injury
William Davis, 27, from the 4600 block of West Adams St. turned himself in after a near fatal car accident left a 52 year old woman in critical care. He initially fled the scene of the hit-and-run on July 25
th. The
accident occurred as Davis was turning on Pulaski Road from Lake Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood around 9 pm. His Buick Lucerne had a repaired windshield when Davis reported his crimes to the Central District station on that Friday, maybe showing that he thought about not turning himself in at all.
Davis was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident which is a Class 4 felony. The sentencing guidelines in Illinois are generally one to three years in prison or a probation period of up to two and a half years. He was also charged with
failing to report an accident including a serious injury, a Class 2 felony. Three to seven years in jail is a usual punishment for that charge, or up to four years of probation. He also received two citations for failure to exercise care with a
pedestrian in the roadway and driving with a suspended license.
The woman who was
injured in the accident is currently in a coma at Mount Sinai Hospital although no other information is known about her condition. It could be maintained that Davis' failure to stop and render aid had an adverse effect on the lady in the accident. If you or a loved one have experienced a car accident that left you unable to work and support your family, then you need to pursue legal means of compensation. Contact
