Posted on September 08,2012 in Personal Injury

On August 15th a man from Elgin was speeding on his motorcycle on Kirk Road in Geneva. It was around 7 am in the morning when that bike hit a semitrailer, fatally injuring the rider. The motorcycle accident occurred near the Fifth Third Bank Ballpark were the Kane County Cougars play baseball. At the intersection of Kirk Road and Cherry Lane, Thomas Jinsky, Jr. was waiting to turn left onto Kirk Road from the stadium parking lot. This man, who is from Wisconsin Rapids, WI had a green light and was turning into northbound lanes when a Suzuki GSX failed to stop at a red light and slammed into the side of the trailer. The motorcycle appeared to be travelling at a speed of at least 60 mph according to witnesses. The 27-year-old man was identified as Eric Mondragon who lived near the 400 block of Douglas Ave in Elgin. He was thrown from his motorcycle due to the collision, while his bike continued to travel nearly 200 yards according to authorities. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, yet he was still severely injured due to the wreck. He was pronounced dead on the scene when police officers reached the crash site. Jinsky was the only other driver involved and was unhurt by the wreck. It is believed by the Kane County Sheriff's Office that the accident was caused by the excessive speed of the motorcycle and not drugs or alcohol. Mondragon also had many citations for various traffic control issues on his record between 2001 and 2011.
