Truck driver dies as a result of workplace accident

A truck driver was killed at work after being pinned between his truck and a post. Federal workplace safety officials are looking into the matter and investigating the company after the incident. The chtribune reported a story on this tragic incident. The 57-year-old truck driver died in Bensenville on January 7 after being pinned between a post and his vehicle. Martin Sum, who lived in South Normandy in Southwest Suburban Worth, was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, the Cook County medical examiner's office told the media. The accident took place at Vitran Express in Bensenville. The report released on January 8 by the medical examiner's office says the death was an accident, and determines multiple injuries as the cause of death. The injuries were caused by being pinned between the door of the truck and a fixed object at the scene. The driver was doing a safety check on his vehicle when the accident happened. Officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are looking into the incident to see if any regulations were ignored, according to OSHA Spokesman Scott Allen.
