Woodstock Man Charged In Teen Death Incident

Posted on August 17,2012 in Personal Injury

Two teens that were killed in a single car crash in July may have been street racing, according to the chtribune, and "charges have been filed against another motorist who police said fled the scene after the crash occurred." The man, Dan Huber, 20, of Woodstock, was charged with failure to report a fatal traffic accident and aggravated street racing and is being held at $100,000 bail. His involvement in the crash was determined after investigation led the sheriff's office to believe that Huber "had met with the two teens shortly before the crash and arranged the street race." Though Huber's car did not make contact with the car being manned by Jacob S. Norys and Alec J. Kaiser, both 16, "Huber left the scene without rendering aid or calling 911." It was about 2am when the car Kaiser was driving "rolled over and struck a tree and a concrete post." Though the airbags were deployed and the teens were wearing seatbelts, they were both pronounced dead at the scene. According to Evo Racers Studies & Research Department, 58 percent of street racing deaths occur in drivers or passengers aged 15 to 29. Age 17 has the highest fatality rate—16, the age of Norys and Kaiser—is ranked fourth in total street racing fatalities. An illegal activity as old as automobiles, street racing is still incredibly popular, despite the blatant risks. In some places, police have initiated new crackdowns on the street racing. In most states, the consequences of illegal street racing include, but are not limited to, vehicle impoundment, loss of license, and jail time. According to the National Hot Rod Association, 49 people are injured for every 1,000 who participate in illegal street racing.
