Divorce FAQs

Do I Need a Lawyer For My Divorce?

Answer: While you are not required by law to be represented by an attorney, attempting to end your marriage without assistance from a legal professional is not recommended. Our lawyers can advise you on the best ways to protect your rights, achieve your goals, and avoid issues that could prolong the divorce process.

How Long Will it Take for My Divorce to Be Finalized?

Answer: No two divorce cases are alike, so it is impossible to say with certainty how much time will be needed to complete the divorce process. Complex financial issues or contentious child custody disputes will often require longer to resolve. However, with the help of an attorney, you can determine your best options for resolving issues as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Will My Spouse Get Half of Everything During Our Divorce?

Answer: While you and your spouse will be required to divide all of your marital property, this division will not necessarily be an equal split. Illinois law requires marital assets to be divided in a fair and equitable manner. Factors that can affect decisions about property division may include each spouse's needs and financial resources.

Will I Be Required to Pay Spousal Support?

Answer: Illinois law refers to spousal support or alimony as spousal maintenance. Decisions about maintenance are handled on a case-by-case basis. Generally, spousal support may be awarded if one spouse earns a significantly higher income, and the other spouse needs financial assistance to maintain his or her standard of living.

Personal Injury FAQs

Is it Important to Receive Medical Attention Soon After an Accident?

Answer: Yes, medical treatment should be sought out as soon as possible after suffering an injury. An examination by a medical professional can establish the extent of your injuries, as well as their causes. This will help ensure that you will be able to receive compensation for all of your medical expenses, as well as other damages.

When Should I Contact a Lawyer After Being Injured?

Answer: It is important to speak with an attorney as soon as possible after being involved in an accident or suffering another type of injury. If you contact us within 24 hours of your injury, we can evaluate your case, advise you of your options, and take prompt action to gather and preserve evidence from the scene of the accident.

How Much Time After My Injury Do I Have to File a Lawsuit?

Answer: Illinois has a two-year statute of limitations in most cases. This means that you will need to take legal action within two years after the date of an accident or injury, or within two years after you became aware of your injury. Failing to file a lawsuit within this time limit may prevent you from being able to receive compensation.

How Much Is My Case Worth?

Answer: The amount of compensation you can receive will depend on multiple factors, including the extent of your injuries, the types of medical treatment that were required, whether you will need ongoing care, and whether you have suffered other types of damages, such as impairment to your ability to earn an income.

OUR SUCCESS STORIES

Ford Motors Pays $1.5 Million For Death Caused By Slow Deploying Airbag

Mr. Mevorah, with another attorney, filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Company, and obtained an out of court settlement of $l.5 million for the client's family.

A 48 year woman was killed instantly when traveling in her own vehicle and was involved in a low speed collision, the air bag deployed and broke the client's neck. The theory developed was that the air bag deployed too slowly, based upon evidence obtained from the "black box" or on board computer in the vehicle.
