Financial Tips for a New Beginning
Divorce is never easy, especially right after the holidays with the New Year looming. On the other hand, the New Year is a great opportunity for new beginnings, and if you’re considering divorce as one of this year’s resolutions, the most important first step is to contact an experienced divorce attorney. “It’s no surprise that January sees more divorce filings than any other month,” according to Forbes. And, as reported in a recent Forbes article, there are several things to do to get your finances in order before beginning divorce proceedings that will make the process much smoother. This is especially important for women, whose financial situation can often be more precarious than a man’s after divorce.
The first of these is to gather all financial documents. The mail can be chock full of year-end statements from all sorts of financial institutions this time of year, and it’s important, especially for women, to make copies of these and give them to a trusted relative. “Having important documents on hand early in the divorce process means you avoid any possible unpleasantness (not to mention time and expense) trying to get copies of them later,” according to Forbes. In the same vein, keep a close eye on credit card statements, and be sure that you have as good a credit score as possible.

New Custody Concerns in Digital Age
Any divorce agreement which involves custody of children will include physical custody. This will be where children will be through the week and over the weekend, also who is ward of them overnight. Also a schedule will be set for the summer months, because when children are out of school, it is a good opportunity for them to spend time with the parent they see less.
While these concerns are necessary, there are other concerns which are valid considering the digital age we live in now. With Facebook and other websites, it becomes a parent’s job to manage their children’s online presence. With two parents who share custody, it becomes necessary to lay down ground rules about what pictures and information can be posted on the internet about children.
“Social media has become a very big issue in all aspects of divorce,” according to Alton Abramowitz, who is the president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Many law firms suggest that clients close all social media profiles when they first consider filing for divorce. After that, a custody agreement should lay down parameters or privacy settings to make sure that a child’s information does not fall into the wrong hands.

America’s Most Wanted Deadbeat Dad Arrested
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the federal government’s most-wanted child support deadbeat was arrested upon his arrival in the United States at Los Angeles International Airport. Robert Sand, age 50, was taken into custody in the Philippines in November, 2012, and was deported back to the United States. It is believed that Sand has been living in Thailand, among other places, in order to evade his child support obligations over the past ten years.
The Office of the Inspector General maintains a list of the most wanted deadbeat parents on its website. Up until now, Sand has topped that list, owing an estimated $1.2 million or more in back child support to three children from two former marriages.
Sand will face an arraignment in a Long Island federal court on January 16, 2013. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Central Islip is prosecuting Sand and announced his arrest.

Baby Boomers Divorce Rates Double, According to Studies.
While divorce rates have begun to stabilize in the US, baby boomers divorce rates have increased and doubled in size. According to a recent CNN article, it was found that couples over the age of 50 are starting to have higher divorce rates within the last 20 years. The study also found that these rates were more common among black people over the age of 50. Hispanics had fallen somewhere in the middle and whites were at the tail end of divorces for the older
population. Many of these recently divorced adults were found to be less educated then those who have continued to stay married.
The author, Susan L. Brown, says that the baby boomers have changed the ideas of marriage. After retiring, many boomers want something different to start a new chapter of their life. Couples were together after a long day of work to spend time with each other and their children. Now, after retiring they have all of this time together and maybe it seems not as ideal for them to be together for the next 20 years. Baby boomers seeking divorce are looking to start a life of their own. However, there is the concern of loneliness and financial stability that will come into factor.
Driver struck vehicle near Route 203 intersection
An Illinois woman claimed that a driver violently struck her vehicle, which caused her to sustain a neck injury and a left shoulder injury. This woman has filed a suit against the violent driver. Mariah Perkins claimed that when the defendant, Courtney Jo Colbert, struck her vehicle, they were both driving on North Street near the Illinois 203 intersection. Due to the collision, Perkins acquired $5,000 in medical costs. She is also claiming to having endured an impaired ability to enjoy life because of her injuries, from which she has also suffered pain and discomfort. All of this was included in the complaint that Perkin's filed on November 19. She filed it in the Madison County Circuit Court. In the filed complaint, Perkins claimed that Colbert was negligently driving too fast, she failed to stop or swerve to avoid the collision, she failed to keep a proper outlook, and she violated a red traffic signal. Any of these events, and especially the combination of them all, makes the collision Colbert's fault, according to the complaint. Perkins also stated in her complaint that she is seeking a judgment from the court in the excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, as well as the addition of costs and any other relief that that court may redeem to be just for Colbert to pay to Perkins.
